Kink, Culture, Conflict
Work in progress
Stills from my collaborative photo shoot with fierce photographer Ajamu X. I am building this work into a live sculptural performance expressing ‘kink, culture, conflict’ focusing on sexuality and gender in necropolitical times, which will be premiered at exhibitions ‘Ruptures’ London and ‘Trans/form’ Bristol in Nov 2015.
This work investigates the colonial connections to the trade of rubber, the racialisation of gender, complexity of culture in the diaspora and the experiences of violence as a transperson of colour. Weaving these elements together, in movement, I will explore the conflict that manifests in expressing identity and sexuality in the diaspora and the possibility of embodied empowerment.
